THE ESSENCE OF LIFE

This painting is the final version of the two work in progress below.  It's a representation of life.  You will find many forms and animals created by the pigment themselves.  I then just reinforced there presence with color and contrasts.  The dark yellow color is actually gold leaf paper which acts as the accent color.  This painting is protected under the copyrights law.

 Hello,

Since Wednesday the 2nd, I've been home resting after coming out of the hospital with a back surgery.  This was a long awaiting surgery and I'm happy to say it went very well.   The only thing is that with the pain medication and of course the pain itself I cannot stand or sit for a very long period of time.  Because I wanted to keep painting I decide to play with my watercolor and create an abstract project.

STEP ONE

I first decided on the colors to use.  Ultramarine blue, Turquoise, and two different yellows.  I applied some colors using the wet into wet technique without really thinking about it.   It's a totally free application.  To create some texture I used some plastic wrap.  (still on the painting)

STEP TWO

I used some colors to reinforce the shapes I found interesting.  Then I applied another coat of color randomly.  In order to balance the strong yellow shape found in the upper right corner,  I applied some gold leaf paper in the bottom left corner.  In reality this is creating light and bringing yellow to the bottom of the canvas.  You can't see the reflect but trust me it is there.

This is done on a full sheet of 140lbs Fabriano Artistico paper.  The paper has not been stretch, it is only taped to my table.  This way I get buckling when wet to help create texture and a flat sheet when dry.

STEP THREE - TO COME

 RED ROSE

Here it is.  I've been working slowly using the glazing technique.  The petals are done with Winsor Newton Quinacridone Pink mixed with the complementary color Hooker's Green in order to have a more subdued color.  The petals are done with Hooker's green, Sap Green and a touch of Naples yellow (Daniel Smith)  Be careful when using Naples Yellow.  Winsor Newton has one but it's an opaque color so not good for glazing unless it's your first coat.

Daniel Smith has a wonderful transparent Naples Yellow

 GRANDPA' S CAR

Here is  a little something I'm working on to relax.  I'm using wet into wet, wet into dry and a bit of dry technique.  This is not my usual way of working but in this case I'm not worried about textures, colors, blooms or any other application problems.  I just want to paint.

I've been using what ever falls onto the paint brush.  Winsor Newton, Daniel Smith, Holbein what ever works.

The only thing that counts is LIGHT & SHADOWS
